CAPE ELIZABETH — Annie Lowenstein paced a balanced attack with three goals and Yarmouth’s girls’ lacrosse team opened its season with a 9-3 victory over Cape Elizabeth on Wednesday.
Lowenstein scored the first two goals of the game and after Charlotte Graham and Laura Ryer answered for the Capers, Annie Bergeron scored to put the Clippers ahead for good.
Katelyn D’Appolonia added a goal for a 4-2 halftime lead.
Yarmouth’s Natalie Teare and Ryer traded goals to start the second half, but Cape Elizabeth (0-4) was shut out the rest of the way.
Goals from Lowenstein, Teare and two goals from Aine Powers put it away.
GARDINER 12, MORSE 7: Lilly Diversi had four goals and two assists to lift the Tigers (1-0) over the Shipbuilders (0-1) at Gardiner.
Sophie Blanchard and Emma Bourget added three goals each for Gardiner, and Averi Baker had two. Skye Cotnoir stopped seven shots.
Delaney Pascuzzo had four goals for Morse and Mary Larochelle had three.
WAYNFLETE 14, ST. DOMINIC 3: CeCe Bliss and Jackie Connors each had a hat trick as the Flyers (2-1) topped the Saints (0-1) at Portland.
Kilee Sherry and Claire Dinapoli added two goals apiece for Waynflete.
Emily Wallingford had a pair of goals for St. Dominic, and Gisele Ouellette also scored.
Emily Girard stopped five shots for the Flyers.
YORK 19, WELLS 1: Clara and Rose Pavuk each scored five goals for the Wildcats (3-0) as they topped the Warriors (1-1) at Wells.
Carly Mitchell added two goals.
Viv Brousseau scored for Wells in the second half.
Kayla Bolton and Molly Humphrey combined for 13 saves in goal.
GREELY 21, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER/POLAND 2: Elsa Dean-Muncie scored six goals and had three assists to lead the Rangers (2-0) over the Patriots (1-2) at Gray.
Samantha Goldburg had five goals and two assists, Charlotte Taylor tossed in four goals, and Carley Ferentz chipped in with three assists.
Andrea Smith and Tiffany Ha scored for Gray-New Gloucester/Poland.
Mackenzie Baston stopped nine shots for the Patriots and Addyson Babcock had a pair of saves for the Rangers.
MARSHWOOD 13, NOBLE 2: Meagan Wentworth led the Hawks (3-1) with a pair of goals and four assists, lifting them to a win over the Knights (0-4) at South Berwick.
Ella Manero and Eva Moreland each had a hat trick for Marshwood. Ari Arrigoni and Natalie Singer both scored twice. Lily Dupree made nine saves in goal.
Carrie Grace scored for Noble.
SOFTBALL
BIDDEFORD 18, FALMOUTH 3: Starter Charlotte Donovan threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out seven and walking one, and also went 3 for 4 with four RBI as the Tigers (3-0) handled the Yachtsmen (0-3) in five innings at Biddeford.
Donovan led the 19-hit attack with a pair of doubles and a second-inning homer, and Chantelle Bouchard, Anna Lavigne, Baylor Wilkinson and Hannah Gosselin each had three hits.
Miranda Birks, Eve Chace and Cameron Birks had hits for Falmouth.
YORK 13, NOBLE 6: The Wildcats (1-1) took an early lead over the Knights (1-2) and never looked back, winning at North Berwick.
Meg Bachelder, Elly Burgoine, Ava Brent and McKayla Kortes had multiple hits for York.
Giuliana DoCarmo hit two home runs for Noble.
WESTBROOK 23, DEERING 4: The Blue Blazes (1-1) hit a pair of grand slams, one by Caitlin Noiles in the fourth inning and the other by Grace Wallace in the fifth, to cruise past the Rams (0-2) at Portland.
Wallace finished 3 for 4 and drove in eight runs for Westbrook. Hailey Ball was 3 for 3 and Maddy Brown added three hits.
KENNEBUNK 13, TRAIP ACADEMY 1: The Rams (1-2) started quick with two runs in the bottom of the first with a Talia Kellum double and added five in the third as they easily handled the Rangers (0-2) in five innings at Kennebunk.
Kellum and Emily Hutchins each had a pair of hits for Kennebunk.
Starter Skylar Holder pitched four scoreless innings for the Rams, allowing two hits, fanning three.
SOUTH PORTLAND 5, CHEVERUS 3: Elise Connor had a double and triple to pace the offense for the Red Riots (2-1) as they topped the Stags (0-2) at South Portland.
Mia Miccuci threw a five-hitter, giving up three runs, fanning nine.
Mackenzie Turner had a pair of hits, including a triple for Cheverus.
FRYEBURG ACADEMY 8, SACOPEE VALLEY 1: Morgan Fusco launched a home run as the Raiders (3-0) topped the Hawks (3-2) at Hiram.
Fusco finished with three hits. Amelia Desanctis picked up the win.
BASEBALL
WAYNFLETE/NYA 12, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 0: Luke Josephson threw a three-hit shutout, fanning 13 batters, as the Flyers (3-1) blanked the Patriots (0-3) at Gray.
Cal Davies went 3 for 3, scoring twice, to lead the 13-hit attack for Waynflete. Josephson added two hits, and Derek Wolverton and Nolan Pecora tossed in a pair of hits each.
Mike Sweeney had a double for Gray-New Gloucester.
SACOPEE VALLEY 6, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 4: Grady Cummings struck out the side with the bases loaded in the seventh to secure the win as the Hawks (3-2) beat the Raiders (1-2) at Hiram.
Cummings also hit a double for Sacopee Valley. Carson Black started the game and went six innings with five hits, striking out 11.
Eddie Thurston went 3 for 3 for Fryeburg.
