SANFORD — York broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the fifth inning, then added three runs in the sixth and held on for a 7-6 baseball win Saturday against Sanford.
Luke Doughty, Hayden Henriksen and Tyler Conant each had two hits for York (2-0). Josh Gennaro pitched five innings, allowing three runs, and Doughty got the final three outs for the save.
Timothy Curley hit a triple and Dan Williams singled twice for Sanford (1-3).
WAYNFLETE/NYA SWEEPS OOB: Waynflete/NYA (2-0) got strong pitching from Payton Smith and Luke Josephson and won 10-0 in both ends of a doubleheader against Old Orchard Beach (1-3) in Portland.
Smith went 5 1/3 innings in Game 1, allowing three hits and no walks.
Josephson pitched a two-hitter in the second game and led the offense with four hits. Derek Wolverton and Liam Slocumb each had three hits for Waynflete/NYA, which scored seven runs in the fifth to invoke the mercy rule.
SOFTBALL
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 12, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 0: Haley Hagerty pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks and hit a two-run single to lead the Panthers (1-0) past the Seagulls (0-3) in five innings, at Yarmouth.
NYA took control quickly with nine runs in the first inning.
Carly Sanzo drove in two runs with a triple and a double, and Acadia Gee added three singles and two RBI.
