COVID-19 update

Gorham had tallied 867 cases of confirmed or probable COVID-19 cases through April 11, according to the Maine Centers for Disease Control.

The town’s five schools have had 91 cases since schools opened last fall. As of April 15, the high school has six active cases, the middle school and Great Falls each have four and Narragansett and Village schools have one each.

According to the school district’s web page, 88 of the cases originated from outside the schools.

Spring brush drop-off

Residents can take brush to Gorham Public Works Department, 80 Huston Road, on Saturday, May 1 and May 15, from 8 a.m. to noon. No commercial drop-offs or stumps. Leaves and grass clippings will be accepted in the designated area throughout the season. For more information, call 892-9062.

Library book sale

The Friends of Baxter Memorial Library will host a two-day book sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, May 7 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 8, in Shaw Gym at the municipal center, 75 South St. For more information, call the library at 222-1190.

Mrs. Alan Richards of Libby Avenue hosted a surprise 25th wedding anniversary party for her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Armentino Jr. They were married in Gorham by the Rev. Harrison Dubbs.

U.S. taxpayer debt

The Bureau of the Fiscal Service reported on April 15 that the U.S. public debt was $28,145,013,813,816.28.
