An Old Orchard Beach man was identified Monday by Massachusetts State Police as the victim of a fatal crash in Tewksbury.
Joshua Avery, 42, died following a single-vehicle crash around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a state police news release. Avery’s 2007 Mercury Mariner was heading south on I-495 , near exit 38, when it rolled over into the median.
Avery, who was alone in his car, was transported by ambulance to Lowell General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police reported the crash Sunday but did not publicly identify Avery until Monday.
Police said they are investigating whether speed was a factor in the accident. A preliminary investigation shows that Avery, who was ejected from the car, was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.
The left and middle travel lanes at the crash site were closed for about two hours Sunday because of the accident. Tewksbury is located east of Lowell and about 80 miles from Old Orchard Beach.
Massachusetts State Police said Monday they had no other information on the accident.
