CAPE ELIZABETH — Nate Mullen scored 15 points and Cape Elizabeth used a 19-5 surge in the third quarter to take control on the way to a 44-40 boys’ basketball win Saturday against Waynflete.
Will Bowe added nine points for the Capers (1-1), who trailed 19-12 at halftime.
Chris Saade led Waynflete (1-1) with 16 points, followed by David Nkingi with 10.
GORHAM 60, SCARBOROUGH 48: Bode Meader poured in five 3-pointers and finished with 28 points – 19 in the second half – to lead the Rams (2-0) past the Red Storm (0-1) in Gorham.
Asa Farley and Grant Nadeau chipped in with nine points apiece.
Reid Deniso paced Scarborough with 13 points.
LEWISTON 59, POLAND 54: Malik Foster scored 17 points, and the Blue Devils (3-0) overcame a six-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat the Knights (0-1) in Poland.
David Omasombo chipped in with 11 points and Elijah Scales added nine.
Hunter Gibson led Poland with 19 points. Hayden Christner scored 10.
FALMOUTH 85, GREELY 32: Brady Coyne scored 21 points and Jack Stoll had 17 as the Yachtsmen (3-0) cruised past the Rangers (0-2) in Cumberland.
The Yachtsmen also got 12 points apiece from Sean Dilworth and Vinnie Hanrahan. Dilworth grabbed 10 rebounds.
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 59, SACOPEE VALLEY 42: Chris Hamblett and Logan Welch combined for 17 third-quarter points as the Panthers used a 25-2 surge to erase a halftime deficit against the Hawks in a season opener in Hiram.
Welch finished with 19 points, and Hamblett chipped in with 15 points and seven assists. Elliott Oney had 16 points and 10 rebounds.
McGwire Sawyer led Sacopee Valley with 25 points.
HALL-DALE 60, MT. ARARAT 58: TJ Wilson banked in a 3-pointer with 1 second remaining to give the Bulldogs a win over the Eagles in Farmingdale.
Wilson finished with 18 points, and Carter Bourque scored 15 for Hall-Dale.
Mt. Ararat was led by Carson Taylor with 18 points and Ty Henke and Brandon Emerson with 11 apiece.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 72, SACOPEE VALLEY 22: Angel Huntsman scored 23 points and Erin Reid had 19 as the Panthers (1-0) cruised to a win over the Hawks (0-1) in Hiram.
Grace Bila chipped in with 10 points. Acadia Gee added eight.
GORHAM 36, SCARBOROUGH 31: Olivia Michaud scored seven points to pace a balance offense as the Rams (3-0) edged the Red Storm (0-2) in Scarborough.
Brylee Bishop and Lauren Fotter each tossed in six points.
Kayla Conley led Scarborough with 12 points, while Sylvia Foley chipped in with a career-high 11.
MT. ARARAT 53, HALL-DALE 37: Elsa Daulerio dropped in 19 points as the Eagles beat the Bulldogs in Topsham.
The Eagles led 22-5 after the first quarter. Morgan Ruff scored 14 and Jaden Lohr added 13 for Mt. Ararat.
Hayden Madore paced Hall-Dale with nine points.
LEWISTON 70, POLAND 14: Natalie Beaudoin scored 21 points and Emily Strachan added 15 to lead Blue Devils past the Knights in Lewiston.
Thea Thornton led Poland with six points.
BOYS’ HOCKEY
BIDDEFORD 1, SOUTH PORTLAND 0: Nick Reissfelder’s goal with 2:42 remaining gave Biddeford/Massabesic/Old Orchard a win over South Portland/Freeport/Waynflete in a season opener at Troubh Ice Arena.
MESSALONSKEE 6, MT. ARARAT 1: Myles Hammond notched a hat trick and added two assists to lead Messalonskee to a win over Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse.
Garrett Card, Andrew Salvadori and William Durkee each added a goal.
Brandon Durant scored for Mt. Ararat.
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 6, LEWISTON 0: Cal Davies scored twice in the second half and Nathaniel Peretz got a goal in each half as the Panthers (1-0) defeated the Blue Devils (1-1) in Lewiston.
Henry Bergeron and Hans-Erik Jerosch also scored. Bergeron’s goal came immediately after his penalty expired while NYA was killing a 5-on-3 power play, as he converted a breakaway.
GIRLS’ HOCKEY
CAPE ELIZABETH 4, BIDDEFORD 1: Bella Schifano opened the scoring with the first of her two goals, then set up a goal by Koto Yamada to start Cape Elizabeth/Waynflete/South Portland (2-0) on its way to a win over Biddeford/Thornton/Wells/Sanford (0-1) at Troubh Ice Arena.
Sofia Cook also scored for the Capers. Katherine Blackburn, Becca Good and Lily Clough each had an assist.
Ash Abdulsalam scored in the first period for Biddeford, assisted by Annie Guimond.
PORTLAND 9, GORHAM 1: Caroline Lerch scored four first-period goals and added a pair of assists as Portland/Deering (2-0) rolled past Gorham/Bonny Eagle/Massabesic/Westbrook (0-2) at Troubh Ice Arena.
Lucy Howe had a goal and three assists, Kim Clifford added a goal and two assists, and Rose Strait, Sammy Desjardins and Julia Duggan also scored.
Emerson Homa scored for Gorham.
