BOYS
Mitchell Morris, Cape Elizabeth cross country: The Cape Elizabeth senior won the Class B boys’ state cross country championship with a time of 16:13 over the 5-kilometer course in Belfast last Saturday.
Honorable mention
Jack Hughes, Scarborough football: Hughes completed 15 of 21 passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Red Storm to a 42-35 win over Sanford in a Western Class A quarterfinal.
Dominick Day, Biddeford football: Day scored on runs of 65 and 47 yards to lead the Tigers to a 34-20 win over South Portland in a Western Class A quarterfinal. Day had 124 yards on five carries and caught three passes for 47 yards. He also kicked 4 of 5 extra points.
Garrett King, Scarborough soccer: King scored the tying goal on a curving shot from the left in a 3-1 victory against Deering in a Western Clsss A semifinal. The shot was from 35 yards and went into the far side.
GIRLS
Kristen Murray, Scarborough field hockey: Murray scored as the Red Storm beat Skowhegan 1-0 for the Class A state title. Murray’s score came with 21 seconds left as a result of a penalty corner. Skowhegan has been state champion for 12 of the past 14 years with both losses to Scarborough.
Honorable mention
Tess Haller, Cape Elizabeth volleyball: Haller rallied the Capers in another improbable comeback to their first Class A state title. Haller had eight kills in the last two games. Cape, trailing by two games, won the third and fourth games by 25-22, then took the tiebreaker 15-8 to beat Falmouth.
Halee Phelps, Westbrook cross country: Phelps won the Class A girls’ cross country title with a time of 19:10 in the 5K race at Belfast.
Ciera Berthiaume, Windham soccer: She scored two goals against Thornton Academy, including the overtime winner in the Western Class A semifinals. She did the same in the quarterfinals against Portland except the winner was late in regulation. The Eagles trailed 2-0 in both games before winning, 3-2.
