Council reduced from 7 to 5

Old Orchard Beach residents on Tuesday re-elected one town councilor and a school board member.

The Town Council is being reduced from seven to five members, a move voters approved last November.

Incumbent Councilor Michael Tousignant ran unopposed for a two-year term and received 3,571 votes. He served on the council from 2008 to 2012, then was elected to a one-year term in 2013.

Michelle Violette beat David Boudreau for a three-year term on the Regional School Unit 23 Board of Directors. Violette finished with 2,112 votes and Boudreau had 1,408.

Town Clerk Kim McLaughlin ran unopposed for a three-year term. She was first elected in November 2000.

Residents also approved a town charter amendment that outlines conflict of interest rules for town councilors and relatives who are town employees by a vote of 2,980 to 522.
