Mary’s Walk a must-do
Louise Hurlbutt will participate in the 12th Annual Mary’s Walk, benefitting the Maine Cancer Foundation.
In January 2009, the Kennebunk resident was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. She underwent surgery and follow-up treatment and pulled together a team to participate in the 2009 walk, but medical complication kept her from participating. This Sunday, she’ll attend with a bigger team roster, more pledges and one other distinction — as the honorary guest speaker.
Founded in 1998, in memory of Mary Kerry Libby, the walk has evolved into a major community event with more than 15,000 people participating over the past 11 years raising more than $1.1 million.
The walk will be held in conjunction with the Kerrymen Pub 5K Road Race, which starts at noon. The 2.5 mile walk begins at 12:15 at the Thornton Academy gymnasium at 436 Main St. For information, call (866) 627-2411 or go to www.maryswalk.com.
