After playing even for the first half, the Colby men’s soccer team scored twice inside a minute Tuesday and held off the University of Southern Maine at Gorham, 2-0.

Luke Andrews set up the first goal at 73:46 of the second half, chesting the ball up to Dan Vogel who finished up high past goalkeeper Elijah Leverett. Charlie Dupree scored 50 seconds later. Cody Funkhouser blocked six shots for the shutout. Leverett stopped 4 of 6 shots.

Colby improves to 4-3 while USM drops to 1-7-1.

BOWDOIN 2, UNE 0: Nick DiStafano scored off a rebound with 9:40 left in the first half and the Polar Bears (3-3) took advantage of an own goal as they blanked the Nor’easters (3-3-1) at Brunswick.

Despite being outshot 26-5, the Nor’easters were able to keep the game close thanks to the efforts of Aidan McParland, who finished with 12 saves.

Noah Safian and Stevei Van Siclen combined on the shutout for the Polar Bears.

ST. JOSEPH’S 2, UM-FARMINGTON 0: Nate Fox opened the scoring with 48 seconds left in the first half and Victor Santos added a breakaway goal midway through the second half to lift the Monks (3-8) over the Beavers (0-5-1) at Farmington.

Scott Benner recorded his second straight shutout.

MAINE MARITIME 2, BATES 0: Kyle Haslam headed in a corner from Gabriel Warren 3:24 into the game and Jonathan Reeks added a goal in the 21st minute as the Mariners (2-4-1) held off the Bobcats (0-6-1) at Castine.

Marshall Spear finished with 10 saves to record the shutout for the Mariners, who won despite being outshot 30-6.

Bates keeper Sam Polito made three saves.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 2, ST. JOSEPH’S (JV) 1: Breagh Macaulay and Katy Cyr each scored to lift the Seawolves over the Monks at Standish.

FIELD HOCKEY

ST. JOSEPH’S 4, SALEM STATE 0: Effie Drew led the Monks (4-1) with a pair of goals as they scored three times in the second half to pull away from the Vikings (1-6) at Standish.

Bailey Cutler and Hayley Winslow added goals.

ENDICOTT 3, UNE 2: Olivia Larson scored the equalizer in the 61st minute and Ashleigh Allen added the winner 1:53 into OT as the Gulls (7-1, 3-0) closed out the game with three unanswered goals to rally past the Nor’easters (5-3, 3-1) at Beverly, Massachusetts.

UNE took the lead on goals by Olivia Madore and Nicole Matarozzo.

FOOTBALL

NOTRE DAME: Coach Brian Kelly said the future of five players barred from practices and games because of possible academic dishonesty could be determined by late next week.

The eighth-ranked Irish, who play Syracuse (2-1) on Saturday, have been without cornerback KeiVarae Russell, receiver DaVaris Daniels, defensive end Ishaq Williams, linebacker Kendall Moore and defensive back Eilar Hardy.

Penalties could range from course failure to expulsion.

FLORIDA STATE: Nose tackle Niles Lawrence-Stample is out for the season after tearing a pectoral muscle in Saturday’s win over Clemson.

• Quarterback Jameis Winston will cooperate in the school’s Title IX investigation, according to his attorney, David Cornwell.

FSU is being investigated by the federal government to determine whether it properly handled a student’s allegation she was raped by Winston in 2012.

AUBURN: Safety Jermaine Whitehead remains suspended for Saturday’s game against Louisiana Tech.
