BRUNSWICK — Children and adults recently celebrated stories and processes of creation at Brunswick United Methodist Church.

Designed and led by 17 young adult members of the church, this year’s “Happy Birthday World” had kids of all ages dancing, crafting rhythm instruments, improving spoken word, ringing hand bells and giggling along with puppets.

The United Methodist Foundation of New England provided funding support for puppet ministry materials and publicity in support of this nontraditional Vacation Bible School.

Brunswick UMC’s new pastor, Karen Munson, described the “ahahs” that led to offering this gift to the community. The church has new members with skills in puppet ministry, a gifted music director (Shari Tarleton, also a music teacher in the Brunswick schools), Spindleworks artists Diane and Earl Black, and a group of young adults available for a summer project.

“My own work focuses on spiritual renewal of communities so that as each member finds their unique gifts they learn to delight in sharing them with others, a nonviolent means of transforming the world,” said Munson. “This summer’s children’s ministry has been a taste of wonderful things to come!”

The Rev. Munson arrived at the Brunswick United Methodist church last summer after serving 12 years with the Readfield United Methodist Church and on staff at Kents Hill School.

“I love the creative energy that flows through the Brunswick area community,” she said. A designer of creative liturgy and textile artist, “Pastor Karen” participated in “Hidden Memories” at Maine Fiber Arts in Topsham this summer.
