“Be strong and of good courage, all you who wait for the Lord.” Psalm, 31:24

Courage

The promise of spring is in the air and all the brave little crocuses are popping up through the snow and bursting forth into the frigid air of an unyielding winter. They may not be very large, but they are bright enough to put on a good show, and they get our attention. They are the vanguards of spring, courageously standing at attention like little soldiers ready to clear the way for the later spring flowers which will put in an appearance only when the weather is warmer and more predictable. To be the first in the line of fire takes great courage. Courage is being afraid and acting anyway. It is the ability to make decisions, and hold to them even in the face of fear. Courage is what we do, not what we feel. Courage reflects our trust in God. When we stand in the forefront and do what is right we have God on our side. With all the injustice that is present in our world today there is a great need for people to stand up and speak out courageously for what is right. Our capacity for courage increases with age, so we are moving in the right direction without even trying, and our God is with us all the way.
