“He shall judge between nations, and shall arbitrate for many peoples; they shall beat their swords into plough-shares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” Isaiah 2:4

Memorial Day

This weekend marks Memorial Day when, in grateful remembrance, we place flowers and flags on the graves of those who sacrificed their lives to procure our country’s freedom. In his Memorial Day speech in 1982, President Reagan said, “The United States and the freedom for which it stands, the freedom for which they died, must endure and prosper. Their lives remind us that freedom is not bought cheaply. It has a cost; it imposes a burden.” On Memorial Day let us all remember to pause at 3:00 pm and take a moment to remember the fallen. The following is a prayer for peace.

Lord, we thank you for this day set apart, not just for celebration, but for solemn remembrance. Give us all the strength to labor wholeheartedly for that “peace which passeth all understanding” while we pray for that ultimate peace on earth which will prevail when your kingdom comes in all its fullness. Meanwhile, dear Lord, give us the grace to bless and honor all who gave their lives to help bring about that peace, and be thankful. Amen.
