Celebrating The Trinity
This Sunday is Trinity Sunday, a day when we celebrate and commemorate, not an historical event or a saint, but the doctrine of the three persons of the Holy Trinity, God the Father as our creator, God the Son as our Savior, and God the Holy Spirit as our Comforter. All are equally God, and they cannot be divided. This will be the last major feast day of the Christian year. We now have until Christmas to contemplate the mystery of the Holy Trinity. It has been said that a mystery is not a wall to run up against, but an ocean in which to swim. It’s like looking into the spaciousness of the night sky. We cannot, with our limited minds, comprehend what it is all about. In ancient days there were many gods, warrior gods, gods of pleasure, and vengeful and wrathful gods. But our God is a dynamic God, a God of love, who was willing to become as we are so that we might become like him, and the more we seek to understand God, the more we learn about ourselves, for we were all made in his image.
