BRUNSWICK — Bowdoin College sophomore Kara Finnerty has been named New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
Finnerty led the Bowdoin field hockey team to a 3-0 week in conference play, including two overtime contests. The sophomore scored four goals in three games, including overtime game-winners against Bates and Williams.
She scored the game’s only goal 8:03 into overtime for a 1-0 NESCAC win at Bates. Finnerty added a goal and assist in Saturday’s 6-0 victory over Wesleyan.
Five minutes into the second half against Williams, Finnerty tallied the equalizer that eventually forced overtime. After producing multiple scoring chances throughout overtime, Finnerty finally put away the game-winner off a feed from Elizabeth Bennewitz.
The Polar Bears opened the season with a loss, but rebounded with three straight NESCAC victories to climb to 3-1.
Bowdoin next hosts Middlebury College on Saturday at 11 a.m.
