KEENE, N.H. — Executing its team strategy to perfection, the University of Southern Maine men’s cross country team won its second straight Little East Conference Championship on Saturday.

The event was hosted by Keene State College.

The Huskies placed their first five scoring runners among the top 11 finishers to compile 36 points. Since winning their first LEC cross country title in 2006, the Huskies have taken the crown a total of six times in the last 12 years.

As he has done all season long, sophomore Chandler Vincent of Pownal paced the Huskies. Vincent covered the 8,000-meters KSC course in a time of 25:20.50 to earn a second-place finish.

Junior Ben Foster was USM’s second finisher, taking the fifth spot with his time of 25:53.9. Rookie Cameron Meier, a recent Mt. Ararat graduate, finished eighth in 26:00.80, and the 2016 LEC Rookie of the Year, sophomore Nick Harriman of Lisbon, was 10th in 26:23.7.

By virtue of their top 10 finishes, Vincent, Foster, Meier and Harriman earned All-Little East honors for 2017.

The Huskies will be off this weekend as they make final preparations for the NCAA New England Division III Regional Championships on Nov. 11. USM is the host for the event that will be held at Gorham Country Club. The action begins at noon.
