Bath police have charged a man for the second time in a little over a month for domestic violence-related charges involving the same alleged victim.

Bath police Lt. Robert Savary said Joshua Boyd, 20, of Bath, was arrested at around 7:30 p.m. Saturday night amd charged with aggravated domestic violence assault, violation of conditions of release, domestic violence criminal threatening and refusing to submit to arrest.

Savary said at around 2 p.m. Saturday, police received report of a domestic violence-related assault that had occurred the previous evening into Saturday morning.

Savary said the call was made on behalf of the alleged victim by an adult female also from Bath. Officers investigated the report, “and learned that the victim sustained strangulation and blows to the facial area and was threatened with a firearm.”

Police have not recovered a firearm and aren’t certain Boyd had a real firearm or if it was a fake gun, Savary said.

He said Boyd has no permits for any sort of weapons and was supposed to be adhering to bail conditions prohibiting him from having contact with the victim, an ex-girlfriend, who was the alleged victim in an incident that led to Boyd’s Oct. 21 arrest, when he was charged with a domestic violence-related crime.

As a result of the alleged assault reported to police Saturday, the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Savary said, but did have visible injuries.

Savery said when Boyd came to the police department and was told by officers he was going to be arrested on a variety of charges, “he resisted their efforts to take him into custody, and after a brief struggle” two officers were able to subdue him and take him into custody.

There was also some minor resistance during the booking process, Savery said, during which Boyd was “trying to head-butt the wall and then the cruiser.” Boyd eventually was transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset by Sagadahoc County staff.

Savary said the district attorney will likely revoke Boyd’s bail for the previous charge resulting from the alleged Oct. 21 incident.

According to Two Bridges Regional Jail, Boyd is still being held today. West Bath District Court has a bail hearing for Boyd scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday via video.
