AUGUSTA — In a joint meeting today, the Legislature’s Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee will convene a special subcommittee to vote on the weapons permit process and regulation of fireworks.
“Right now, every town issues a permit for concealed weapons, and the permits don’t look the same,” said state Sen. Stan Gerzofsky, D-Brunswick, the Senate chairman of the committee. “We should have a uniform permit and a standard process for issuing (them).”
LD 222, sponsored by state Rep. Tim Marks, D-Pittston, likely will be the vehicle for the subcommittee’s recommendations.
The full committee will consider two measures regulating use of fireworks:, one sponsored by state Sen. Chris Johnson, DSomerville, and another sponsored by state Rep. Mike Lajoie, D-Lewiston.
The concealed permit meeting was scheduled for 8 a.m., with the full Criminal Justice Committee set to meet at 10 a.m. in Room 436 of the State House.
