BRUNSWICK — Brunswick police today urged local residents to lock their doors after a Hornet Street couple found an intruder in their home early this morning.
Officers responded at 12:34 a.m. today to former Brunswick Naval Air Station housing off Gurnet Road, where a man reported that someone had broken into his home and then was chased out by the couple’s dog, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan of the Brunswick Police Department said today.
Nothing was taken and no one was injured, but Hagan said the incident is not the first break-in reported throughout Brunswick — although it’s the first time recently that the intruder was spotted.
Police have responded to “a lot” of reports of purses and other items taken from homes, and to frequent reports of vehicle break-ins, but Hagan said he’s more concerned that someone was “so brazen” as to break in to a home when the residents were there.
“ I’m concerned any time somebody’s going to go into another person’s house,” he said. “Again, people really need to lock their doors.”
Today’s incident remains under investigation.
