LONDON (AP) — British Prime Minister David Cameron’s office says Liberal Democrat lawmaker Ed Davey has been appointed as Energy and Climate Change secretary after his predecessor quit.

Chris Huhne resigned from his post as a Cabinet minister today after prosecutors charged him over an alleged attempt to pin a speeding penalty on his ex-wife.

Huhne, who insists he is innocent, and his former spouse Vicky Pryce will appear in court later this month charged with perverting the course of justice.

Davey was previously a junior minister in the business department. Norman Lamb, also a member of the Liberal Democrat party — the junior member in Britain’s coalition government — takes Davey’s post.
