LEWISTON — The Brunswick High School girls junior varsity basketball team gained its first victory of the season with a recent 30- 27 triumph over the Blue Devils.
The Dragons were stifled from the tip-off as Lewiston opened up with an 8-2 first quarter advantage and the Blue Devils went into the locker room at halftime with a 12-9 advantage. Brunswick, using a full-court press, erupted for a 15- 8 third quarter spread to take a 24- 20 lead into the fourth quarter.
Brunswick was paced by Erica French, who went eight-for-10 from the foul line and led all scorers with 13 points. Sasha Hampton scored nine points to go along with 10 rebounds, Anna Dimick had 10 rebounds and five points, and Jessica Libby, Ashlee Navarro and Sarah Dorval spurred the defensive effort for the Dragons.
Lex Jiminez led Lewiston with eight points.
The Dragons close out their season Thursday with a home game against rival Mt. Ararat.
