Two local foundations, the Sam L. Cohen Foundation and the Davis Family Foundation, each contributed $7,500. The funds will be used to offset technical costs of the ambitious production, including special lighting, according to a Maine State Ballet release.
“To reach the level of quality that this show requires, you need to be able to light it properly, and there are some massive backdrops that need to be displayed. The backdrop of the lake is simply stunning,” Linda MacArthur Miele, co-founder and artistic director of the nonprofit Maine State Ballet, said in the release.
“Swan Lake,” composed by Tchaikovsky and premiered by the Bolshoi Ballet in 1877, is considered one of the greatest classical ballets.
Tickets prices range from $20 to $40, and discounts are available for groups, seniors and children.
Performances of “ Swan Lake” are scheduled for 2 p.m. on March 31, and 2 p.m. on April 1. Tickets are on sale through Porttix at 842-0800, online at www.porttix.com, or at the Merrill Auditorium box office.
