WEST BATH — The Maine State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of a blaze on Moose Trail Drive late Tuesday afternoon that destroyed a detached, two-car garage.
When firefighters from West Bath and five neighboring communities responded to the call just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, they found the garage fully involved, Deputy Fire Chief Jonathan Beane of the West Bath Fire Department said today.
“ When the first truck pulled in, the flames were through the roof,” Beane said. “The homeowner’s house was about 20 feet away. The first crew managed to knock the fire down and … hold it off ’til we got our water supply established.”
No injuries were reported.
The heat from the fire melted the siding on the adjacent home, but Beane said it habitable “and doesn’t even smell like smoke.”
The garage and a single vehicle inside it were a total loss.
Beane was scheduled to meet this morning with investigators from the Maine State Fire Marshal’s office. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
