BATH — United Way’s Success By 6 seeks more volunteers who want to read with children on March 2 as part of the 13th annual Community Read Aloud.
“It is not too late to sign up to read with children during this year’s event,” Peter Lindsay of United Way said in a release. “We are looking for volunteers who love to read aloud and who want to share their enthusiasm for great books and stories with young children. We especially need more volunteers to sign up to read in classrooms in Bath, Topsham, Bowdoin and Bowdoinham.”
Volunteers are matched with a child care program, a Head Start center or an elementary grade classroom from kindergarten to sixth grade. Volunteers are asked to talk about why reading is important in their own lives and to bring a book or several books to read with the children.
The usual visit in a classroom lasts between 30 minutes and an hour.
To sign up today as a volunteer reader, call 443-9752 or email success@uwmcm.org. Volunteers also can sign up online by going to: www.surveymonkey.com/s/CommunityReadAloud.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
