CAPE ELIZABETH — Online registration for the 2012 TD Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race begins for the general public at 7 a.m. on Thursday.
A lottery (drawing on March 23) will follow for those who do not secure a spot through online registration.
Also, beginning at 7 a.m. on March 14, Cape Elizabeth residents will have 24 hours to fill 600 slots reserved for the host community.
Runners need to register at the race website — http://beach2beacon.org.
In 2011, online registration for the general public was open just eight minutes before all slots were filled, while Cape Elizabeth resident registration filled in 51 minutes.
The 2012 race entry fee is $40.
The TD Beach to Beacon 10K, known as one of the best managed and most popular events on the U.S. road race circuit, is set for Aug. 4.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
