PORTLAND ( AP) — Maine’s supreme court says a business’ insurer isn’t obligated to cover damage caused by a company driver during an incident of road rage.
The court ruled unanimously Thursday in a case brought after The Travelers Indemnity Co. refused to cover the injury damage when one of the owners of Raymond- based Prime Cut Meat Market hopped out of his truck and punched a man in another vehicle on Sept. 3, 2007.
Travelers provided insurance to Prime Cut Meat Market, but declined to cover damage inflicted by co-owner Michael Bryant because it was outside his terms of employment.
At the time, Bryant was traveling from a campground with his son in a truck that he owned. The family of the victim, Francis Latanowich, sued Bryant, his company and his insurer.
