BRUNSWICK

A Brunswick man was pursued by police and arrested after he allegedly made off with stolen taquitos and an ice cream sandwich from the 7-Eleven on Maine Street early Friday morning.

Brunswick Police Cmdr. Marc Hagan said police were called to 7-Eleven at 1:38 a.m. Friday for a reported theft. A suspect reportedly took the food and fled the store headed south on Maine Street.

Hagan said an officer was on scene almost immediately and saw a subject matching the description of the suspect, running across the mall toward Park Row. The officer began chasing the suspect on foot and found him hiding on a small porch off of Park Row.

Officers handcuffed Bryan Wilson, of Brunswick, without further incident, according to Hagan, but as they attempted to put him in a cruiser, he allegedly became verbally confrontational. Hagan said Wilson continued yelling and cursing during the drive to the station, unbuckled his seat belt and began jumping back and forth in the seat, rocking the cruiser.

Officers stopped and as they tried to refasten his seat belt, Wilson allegedly spat on three officers, triggering the assault charges. Wilson complained he couldn’t breathe so police had him out of the cruiser awaiting Brunswick Rescue when Hagan said “he started slamming his head into the pavement, so at that point we had a rescue transport him to Mid Coast Hospital.”
