BRUNSWICK — Bowdoin College freshman women’s tennis player Joulia Likhanskaia has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year to headline All- Conference Awards handed out on Friday.

Likhanskaia was named as a First Team All-NESCAC choice as well, while the doubles team of senior Kate Winingham and freshman Samantha Stalder joined her with First Team recognition.

Winingham and Tiffany Cheng were named as Second Team All-NESCAC selections in singles.

Since pairing up on March 19, Winingham and Stalder went 12-1, including a 12-match winning streak at the No. 2 position. It marks the first doubles all-conference award for Winingham, who was Second Team All- NESCAC in singles in 2012 and received the honor again this year following a 16-11 campaign, playing primarily at the No. 1 and 2 positions for the Polar Bears.

Joining the pair on the NESCAC’s First Team is Likhanskaia, who was selected as the NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Likhanskaia posted an 18-3 singles record at the No. 1 through No. 3 positions to earn a spot on the First Team. She enjoyed lengthy win streaks of six and nine matches in singles play during the regular season and defeated Williams senior Kara Shoemaker (6-3, 2-6, 6-1), 2014 NESCAC Player of the Year, in Bowdoin’s conference semifinal loss to the Ephs.
