PORTLAND (AP) — A 52- year-old Portland woman has been sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to her eighth drunken driving offense.
A judge at sentencing Thursday said Kelly Jean Boyer has been “wholly unsuccessful” in treating her alcoholism.
Prosecutors called her a “serial drunken driver.”
Boyer had graduated from an intensive substance abuse treatment program in the York County Drug Court just 20 days before she was arrested on the most recent charge on Jan. 10 in Scarborough.
Boyer told the judge that she made a mistake and went out with co-workers from her job at the University of New England and drank four beers.
The Portland Press Herald reports that Boyer said she is “blessed” that she has never hurt anyone.
