BRUNSWICK — A local observance of the fifth annual National Train Day is on track to run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 16 Station Ave.
“Created by Amtrak, the national passenger railroad system, and recognized in dozens of cities across the U.S., the event is free and features a number of displays recognizing railroading in Maine,” a release from organizers states.
Among planned activities are:
— The Maine 3-Railers will feature a model train layout.
— A “speeder,” once used by railroad maintenance employees to reach workplaces, will be on display.
— A conductor from the Maine Eastern Railroad will discuss excursion plans for the 2012 tourist season.
— Maine Operation Lifesaver, a railroad safety group, will operate a model railroad display, play rail safety videos, and give away safety-related coloring books, pencils, bookmarks, Maine railroad trading cards and stickers.
Information about other Maine rail lines including Amtrak’s Downeaster, the Seashore Trolley Museum, the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway, and Boothbay Railway Village will be available.
