NEWCASTLE — Four years ago when St. Patrick’s Church celebrated its bicentennial, Carrie Watson’s dream of an Ecumenical Choir Festival was born.

On a beautiful October evening, church choirs from all over the Damariscotta- Newcastle area came together to perform a joint concert. It was an instant success and many people who attended expressed tremendous enjoyment and a request for more. As a result, the fourth annual Ecumenical Choir Festival will be celebrated on Sunday at 3 p.m., at the Second Congregational Church in Newcastle.

Since its inception the festival has continued to grow and this year at a new location and by popular suggestion, it has become a celebration of spring. There will be more group selections and more opportunities for the audience to get involved.

“What better way to herald in the beautiful season of spring,” notes a news release, “than with 100 voices … who by virtue of the gift of music prove, when you sing you pray twice.”
