No one was injured when a vehicle struck a Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department cruiser that was parked at the scene of a crash along Route 1 on Friday morning.
A minor property damageonly crash was reported at 8:44 a.m. Friday on Route 1.
Deputy Al Huntington responded and parked his cruiser, with its lights flashing, alongside the highway.
A second vehicle struck the cruiser at 8:53 a.m., according to sheriff’s department reports.
Sagadahoc Sheriff ’s Department Lt. Calvin Temple said the responsible motorist told Huntington that he said he was being tailgated, and was looking behind him, then looked left and struck the cruiser as he looked right.
The vehicle struck the cruiser on its right rear bumper. Huntington was not in the cruiser at the time and was not hurt, Temple said.
Huntington did not charge the apologetic driver.
A tow truck took the cruiser to a body shop. The Maine State police investigated the incident.
