DAMARISCOTTA — Skidompha Public Library on Main Street invites local artists to apply to exhibit their work at its new Carey Art Gallery, which will be dedicated in the fall.
Works displayed at the Carey Gallery will include paintings, photography and crafts, with preference given to local artists. The gallery will offer exhibits year-round, with a new one every month.
The new gallery will encompass the hallway near the library’s auditorium and Elm Street entrance. It is being established in memory of Parker Carey of Damariscotta, who died in November. Parker and his wife, Joyce, who died in 2008, were, in the words of library director Pam Gormley, “devoted and tireless volunteers for Skidompha.”
Artists who would like to apply to exhibit can stop at the library for a copy of the art gallery policy, or find it online at www.librarysample.org/skidom pha/extra1.asp.
For more information about the library, call 563-5513 or visit www.skidompha.org.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
