PORTLAND (AP) — A Maine sheriff ’s department is adding facial recognition software to its investigative toolbox.

Beginning today, the Cumberland County Sheriff ’s Department will begin using facial recognition software to determine if people are who say they are.

Deputies will be able to take a digital photo of someone and have a computer program compare it with a database of photos of people who have previously been booked at the jail to determine if there’s a match.
