DURHAM

Nomination papers become available today for an unfinished term on the Board of Selectmen left vacant following the immediate resignation last month of Philip Gilikson.

Gilikson was elected in 2011 to a three-year term on the Board of Selectmen after serving an unfinished term of two years on the board. His immediate resignation, stemming from personal obligations, was announced by town administrator Janet Smith at the board’s July 3 meeting.

According to the town’s website, the vacant term expires in April 2014. Anyone interested in running can visit the town clerk’s office during regular hours to pick up a form with which to gather signatures of registered Durham voters. The clerk requests at least 25 and no more than 100 signatures, and recommends candidates gather a few more than 25 signatures to ensure the needed number of valid signatures.

Nomination papers for the Board of Selectman position must be completed and filed with the town clerk, Shannon Plourde, on or before Monday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. The election will take place Nov. 6 to coincide with the presidential election.

Voter registration is available all year at the clerk’s office with proof of identity and a current address confirmation form or mail if the current Durham address isn’t listed on your driver’s license or state ID.

For more information call the town clerk at 353-2561 extension 11.
