Police suspect 9-year-olds might have set off fireworks Wednesday on Central Avenue.
Lt. Cielinski said Thursday that an officer found the children near the site of the complaint, which came in at 2:23 p.m.
“The officer found wrappings in the area, but the kids denied any knowledge of the fireworks, and we couldn’t prove it,” Cielinski said.
The city has an ordinance against the use of fireworks, regardless of age.
Clothing caper
A woman had put a load of clothes in a dryer at a laundromat on Congress Avenue, Cielinski said, then left the premises. When she returned, she discovered the dryer had been opened, and a pair of pants and towels stolen. The value of the items is about $100, Cielinski said.
“They have cameras there, so it’s possible we could charge somebody in this case,” he said.
Crime interrupted
Brunswick police arrested a 16-year-old male who they say was caught after officers interrupted a motor vehicle burglary in progress on Water Street early Thursday morning.
The incident was reported at 12:18 a.m. Capt. Mark Waltz said officers responded to the scene of a motor vehicle burglary in progress, chased several individuals who eluded police but caught a 16-year-old juvenile from Brunswick. He was arrested, charged with burglary to a motor vehicle and theft by unauthorized taking and transfer.
