BATH — ArtVan has been awarded a grant for $10,000 from the Quimby Family Foundation of Portland. The grant supports access to the arts through programming in its service areas including Brunswick, Auburn, Lewiston, Bath and Biddeford.
A news release describes ArtVan as follows:
ArtVan is a mobile arts therapy program that provides programming to children, teens and adults who have the least amount of social services, after school and summer activities available to them. Started in 2004 by founder and art therapist Jamie Silvestri, the nonprofit believes in art as a way to safely communicate thoughts, feelings and ideas.
ArtVan makes access to the arts possible by bringing supplies and relevant projects directly to clients.
The Quimby Family Foundation, formed in 2004 by Roxanne Quimby, along with it’s environmental focus, also supports increasing access to the arts throughout Maine.
Funds from the grant will cover many of ArtVan’s operational costs and assist in its goal of expanding programming, the news release states.
