BRUNSWICK

1. First of all, please give us a little history about Keith Field, Goldsmith.

The Field family has owned and operated jewelry stores in Brunswick since the late 1800s. Each generation has served Brunswick through different aspects of the industry.

T. Albert Field was trained at Tiffany and owned jewelry stores in Brunswick and Kennebunkport. His son and grandson, Clarence and C. Eldon Field, sold fine jewelry, but were primarily professional horologists, repairing and maintaining our community’s watches.

Keith Field followed his passion for jewelry and studied gemology and goldsmithing. His handmade jewelry company, Keith Field, Goldsmith, purchased Field’s Jewelry from C. Eldon in 2001.

All our loose diamonds have accompanying

GIA lab reports and we prioritize using 100 percent recycled metals in not just our own designs, but also those of our suppliers. As a member of the American Gem Trade Association, we are connected to a supply chain that openly discloses a stone’s story from mine to showcase.

Andrew Brunner, our store manager, has taken advantage of our small business size and created an environment that prioritizes listening to a customer’s concerns. He emphasizes educating people about their options so that they can confidently choose the perfect piece of jewelry for their specific situation.

3. In your opinion, why do you think consumers value the importance of jewelry?

Consumers value the importance of jewelry because they want something lasting and meaningful. Jewelry is a tangible reminder of a commitment and experience; it is part of their identities.

When quality jewelry is maintained, it can last generations. Each person’s story is a pleasure to participate in, but there is something extra special when we get to reset a family stone for the next engagement. People purchase jewelry to celebrate life’s moments and milestones. They maintain, repair and remake jewelry to preserve the memories.

4. Why do you think Brunswick has been able to retain its vibrant downtown with all its storefronts practically full?

Downtown Brunswick is vibrant today because of its community, which values shopping local and supporting their neighbors.

Over the years, Maine Street has changed. Errands to small-town supply stores have been replaced by the experience of the farmers’ market, theater, restaurants, boutiques and coffee shops. Brunswick’s local businesses are able to personally connect with and provide services tailored to their consumers’ needs.

While big box stores and the Internet are now the supplier of many everyday staples, when shopping at local retail stores like ours, people have the opportunity to physically interact with a unique product.

We are proud to be part of downtown Brunswick’s heritage and are excited about its future opportunities.
