Bowdoin College junior Sarah Kelley came away with first place at the 2016 Maine State Intercollegiate Cross Country Championship hosted at Pineland Farms in Gray on Saturday.

Lelley led the Bowdoin women’s team to a second-place finish overall, while the men’s team took third.

Kelley finished the 5K course in a time of 18:38.3, winning by over four seconds. She was joined in the top 10 by Demi Feder (19:00.1), who took sixth, and Meghan Bellerose (19:15.9) in 10th, followed by Caroline Corban (19:17.8) in 11th

Julia O’Rourke, Sarah Kinney and Erin Hollenbaugh took 13th-15th for the Polar Bears, who totaled 41 team points to trail only Bates (29).

Matt Jacobson and Nicholas Walker led the way for the Bowdoin men, taking fourth and fifth place, respectively. Jacobson finished the 8K race in 25:35.2 with Walker by his side in 25:35.3. Bridger Tomlin finished in 10th in 25:58.2, while Sean McDonald continued to move up the Bowdoin finishers in 13th place in 26:05.1.

Kelley has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week.

Kelley will be one of the favorites at the upcoming NESCAC Championships, which are scheduled for Oct. 29 at Colby.

Men’s tennis

The Bowdoin doubles duo of Kyle Wolfe and Jerry Jiang finished fourth at the 2016 Oracle Cup Division III Doubles Tournament in Surprise, Ariz., on Thursday and Friday.

The fourth-place showing is the best for a Polar Bears team at the ITA Small College National Championships.

Wolfe and Jiang won their opening match, but fell in the semifinals, 6-3, 5-7, 10-7.

In a consolation match, the duo dropped a 3-6, 6-3, 11- 9 match.

Bowdoin first-year Caroline Flaharty has been named the NESCAC Volleyball Player of the Week.

Flaharty led the Polar Bears to a 3-0 week, including a pair of NESCAC victories. She reached double figures in kills in each contest, averaging 4.30 kills per set, while hitting at a .461 clip. She also averaged three digs per set and delivered three service aces. She currently ranks second in the league in kills (3.49/set). It is the first weekly honor of Flaharty’s collegiate career.

Bowdoin will return to action this upcoming weekend in St. Louis, Mo., as the Polar Bears travel to play in a highly-competitive tournament at Washington University. The Polar Bears open against Texas-Dallas at 5 p.m. on Friday
