BRUNSWICK — Rachel Kennedy scored four goals, matching her career-high, as the Bowdoin College field hockey team rolled past visiting Rhodes (Tenn.) College, 7-1 on a rainy Tuesday evening at Ryan Field.
The second-ranked Polar Bears (12-1) continue to put up impressive offensive numbers, outscoring their opponents 37-2 over the last six games. Rhodes (10-3) came to Brunswick with the nation’s second-best save percentage (.875) and third-best goals against average (0.67).
The Lynx took an early lead in the opening half, capitalizing on a pair of back-to-back corners that kept Bowdoin on its heels. Fielding the initial insert, Kate Taylor dished a pass to her left and continued forward into the circle as she recollected the ball and pushed a shot on net. Julie Hertzman swept at the ball as it passed, providing a bit of speed and directional change, and watched as her shot crashed into the right corner of the boards.
The Polar Bears kicked up their offensive pressure and scored three times in three minutes to answer the Lynx. Kennedy put home a pair of rebounds at 13:08 and 15:59, while Kimmy Ganong finished off a Colleen Finnerty feed with a one-time sweep at the left post in the 14th minute. The Polar Bears head visit rival Colby on Saturday.
