Students and staff at the Bath Regional Career and Technical Center created ‘I AM’ posters as part of a school-wide literacy campaign and community-building initiative. Julia Kenny, teacher of Commercial Arts, whose students did the design work on the posters, said, “’I AM’ is about giving voice to BRCTC as a community of individuals, and valuing the diversity of our community.”
The posters will line the walls through Open House in mid-November. Students from all programs will be featured, including Automotive, Carpentry, Childcare, Commercial Arts, Culinary Arts, Electricity, Engineering Design, Health Sciences, and Welding.

Ashton Perry of Bath, graduating class of ‘15, said that the task was pretty simple. “We use Photoshop tools to put together our compositions,” he said. “The show attracts attention.” Perry may have thought it was easy, but he has had previous experience working on this sort of thing.
In fact, most of the students are getting real work time, doing tasks for organizations and businesses. They designed a logo for an event at the YMCA, for instance.
Spencer Weiss of Bristol, also in the class of ‘15, said that the job wasn’t hard, but it was time consuming. “I thought it was fun,” he said. He is hoping to go to school for graphic design as a career, and is looking for work to bulk up his portfolio. “When you step back and see the whole wall of faces and words, it’s the culmination of all the time and work we did,” he said. “That’s really cool.”
The show will be available for public viewing during Open House night on November 13.
