LEWISTON — The Bates College women’s basketball team outscored the University of Southern Maine in each of the last three quarters en route to a 75-60 non-conference victory recently in Alumni Gym.
The Bobcats (1-1) starting five came up big, particularly in the second half. Four starters scored in double figures and the fifth, Bernadette Connors, scored nine and passed out a career-high 10 assists.
Allie Coppola led the Bobcats with 17 points and 12 rebounds to go with four assists. Lyse Henshaw of Brunswick poured in 16 points, shooting 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Emily Freedland tallied career highs in points (15), rebounds (five), assists (five) and steals (four). Nina Davenport of Freeport chipped in 14 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high four blocks.
