The Bowdoin College swimming and diving teams were in action over the weekend.

The Polar Bear men and women posted commanding victories against Wesleyan and Trinity during a two-day dual meet.

On the women’s side, the Polar Bears left Connecticut with two-team wins, two relay wins and 15 individual victories. They scored 268 points to Trinity’s 106 and 247 to Wesleyan’s 119. The men also had two team victories, topping Trinity by a score of 244-124 and Wesleyan by a score of 240-129.

In the women’s meet, Mariah Rawding won the meet’s first event, the 50 breaststroke, in a time of 31.77. Later Friday night Rawding was the team’s top finisher in the 100 IM as she finished third in 1:02.29. First-year Mary Laurita topped the 50 butterfly with a 26.34. Laurita was second in the 100 butterfly with her 59.55. Classmate Ellie Wargo won that event in 59.38 and junior Ally Fromson-Ho finished third (1:01.05). Nadia Eguchi led a Polar Bears sweep in the 500 freestyle with her time of 5:13.87. She was followed by Caroline Watt (5:30.70) and Linnea Patterson (5:20.80). Eguchi returned on Saturday morning to win the 1,000 with a time of 10:50.38, while Watt was third in 10:55.31.

Marshall Lowery was runner up in the 50 backstroke with a 27.41. Sophomore classmate Amanda Banasiak won the 50 freestyle later on Friday night with her 24.84. Saturday, Lowery dominated the 200 backstroke with her 2:06.35.

Sterling Dixon won the 200 and 100 freestyles. In the 200 free she cleared two minutes with her 1:58.14. In the 100 she touched in 54.61, just ahead of Patterson in second with a 54.85.

First-year Kayla Snyder won the 100 breaststroke with a 1:11.51, just faster than classmate Claire Wolff with a 1:11.58. Wolff prevailed in the longer distance, winning the 200 with a 2:31.79, with Snyder second (2:34.59.)

Wolff and Eguchi went one-two in the 400 IM in times of 4:41.99 and 4:47.28. Julianna Kiley finished fourth in 4:55.29. Fromson- Ho and Kiley were first and second in the 200 fly with times of 2:13.31 and 2:17.13, respectively.

First-year Calla Chan placed third in the 100 backstroke with a 1:03.19.

Sophomore Thea Kelsey won the 1-meter diving with 235.95 points. Rebecca Stern was third with a score of 223.45. On 3-meter, Kelsey won with 235.25 points and Stern was second with a score of 227.60.

Bowdoin also won the two relays of the weekend

In the men’s meet, first-year Michael Tirone won the 50 breaststroke with a 27.35. Senior Michael Netto was third in 27.74. Junior Karl Sarier edged Tirone 53.66 to 54.41 for the 100 IM victory.

Julian Abaldo and Logan House took the top two spots in the 50 fly with times of 23.23 and 23.65. Abaldo also won the 50 freestyle in 21.67 and senior captain Will Hutchinson finished third (21.74). In the 500 freestyle, first-year Geoff Chen touched second in 4:48.36. Hutchinson added a second place finish with his 25.25 50 backstroke and another in the 100 backstroke with a 54.13. Dan Williams was second in the 1000 in 10:06.32. House snagged second in the 100 butterfly with a 53.12, just faster than first-year Jacob Baltaytis in 53.24.

Jack Barry was Bowdoin’s top finisher in the 200 freestyle, finishing third in 1:48.86. Tirone, Chen, and Sarier were second (1:00.21), third (1:00.59), and fourth (1:01.08), respectively in the 100 breaststroke. Sarier went on to win the 100 freestyle in 47.40, while Chen was third (48.27). Stephen Pastoriza posted two victories in a tough double on Saturday morning. The junior won the 400 IM in 4:10.72 and followed that swim up with a 2:11.47 in the 200 breaststroke. Macdonald (2:01.27) and Jean Baptiste Andre (2:01.84) finished third and fourth in the 200 butterfly.

Mitchell Ryan won the 3- meter diving with a score of 306. He was second on 1- meter with 264.15 points.

The team travels to Colby this upcoming Saturday.

Indoor track

Both Bowdoin squads ran away from the competition at the Bowdoin Invitational III Saturday at Farley Field House.

The Polar Bears earned multiple winners in their final home meet of the campaign as both squads placed first in the six-school fields. The Bowdoin men had 260.33 points, with Husson, Colby- Sawyer, UMaine-Farmington, Thomas and St. Joseph’s rounding out the field.

In the girls meet, Bowdoin had 22 points, with Husson, Colby-Sawyer, St. Joseph’s, UMF and Thomas battling it out.

First-year Belinda Saint Louis was a multiple winner, setting a personal-record in winning the weight throw (42-03.50) while also placing first in the shot put (37-10). Erin Hollenbaugh took first-place showings in the 1,000- meter run (3:15.01) and mile (5:22.55) for the Polar Bears. In the sprints, Bowdoin got wins from Samantha Schaefer (200) and Leah Matari (400), while Julia O’Rouke claimed the 3,000 and Sarah Kinney won the 5,000.

Bowdoin placed first in the 4 x 400 relay (Angela Wunderlich, Matari, Hollenbaugh, Eleanor Brakewood) and the 4 x 800 relay (Kinney, Leah Kratochvil, Julia Zitzmann, Abigael Osmanski). Morgen Gallagher took first in the high jump for Bowdoin.

Bowdoin went 1-2-3-4 in the mile run as Sean Mac- Donald led the way in first place in 4:15.60. The Polar Bears also went 1-2 in the long jump, won by Reid Brawer (22-05.75) and the triple jump, won by Huma Dadachanji (42-11). John Kenneally took first in the 600, while Alec Ferguson- Hull took the 1,000 and Thomas Namara in the 3,000.

Michael Chen placed first in the 60 hurdles in 8.69 seconds.

Bowdoin won both the 4 x 400 relay (Devon Campbell, Lyndberg Simelus, Stevie Upton, Alan Banks) and the 4 x 800 relay (Dylan Welch, Isaac Schuchat, Vincent Dong, Jack Richardson). John Pietro claimed the weight throw in a toss of 52- 10.

The Polar Bear women head to Bates on Friday (6 p.m.), while the men head to Bates on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Record set

Bowdoin’s distance medley relay traveled to Boston on Saturday to compete in the John Thomas Invitational track meet.

In a field of 20 teams, the Bowdoin women finished third in a school record time of 11:49.86.

Sophomore Caroline Shipley led off on the 1,200-meter leg with a 3:39 before passing the baton to junior Sara Ory who ran a 59-second 400 leg of the relay. First-year Clair Traum ran a 2:18 on the 800 leg. Senior All-American Sarah Kelley ran the anchor leg for Bowdoin, posting a 4:52 for the 1,600 section of the relay.

The previous Bowdoin record was 11:59.95 set in 2003 by the All-American relay team of Elizabeth Barney, Katie Walker, Kala Hardaker and Julia Febiger. The time is currently the top-ranked time in the event on the NCAA Division III performance list.

Squash

Both Bowdoin teams concluded its regular seasons with three recent matches.

The Polar Bear men defeated Tufts (6-3), but lost to Colby (8-1) and Brown (8- 1) to end the regular season with a 3-9 record.

Bowdoin will head to Hamilton College for the NESCAC Tournament beginning on Friday. Pairings for the championship will be announced on Wednesday.

Propelled by wins at the top four positions, Bowdoin edged Tufts on Saturday afternoon. Ian Squiers, Satya Butler, George Cooley and Tyler Shonrock won at positions 1-4 for the Polar Bears. Drew Clark and Arjun Dravid wrapped up the win for Bowdoin with victories at the seven and nine spots, respectively.

Gannon Leech took Bowdoin’s points against Colby and Brown, earning both 3-0 wins at the No. 5 spot in both matches.

The women played three matches at home inside Lubin Center, earning a win against Mount Holyoke (7-2) before falling to Colby (8-1), Tufts (6-3) and Brown (8-1) to end the regular season with a 5-9 record. The Polar Bear women will also head to Hamilton for the NESCAC Tournament.

The Polar Bears won at the top seven positions in their victory over Mount Holyoke on Saturday. Lindsey Bindra, Tully Ross, Lex Horwitz, Diya Chopra, Zoe Wood, Natasha Belsky and Caroline Burkhart posted individual wins against the Lyons.

Ross accounted for the Bowdoin match win against Colby as she earned a 3-0 win at the No. 2 position in the ladder.

Bindra, Ross and Horwitz took victories at the top three positions in Bowdoin’s loss to Tufts on Saturday.

Nordic skiing

Bowdoin secured a second place finish at the Chummy Cup, the Maine State Championship, hosted by UMaine-Presque Isle over the weekend.

The Polar Bears finished second behind Colby in the five-team race. Bates, UMPI and UMaine-Farmington finished third through fifth.

Five Bowdoin skiers, three women and five men, earned All-State honors. Renae Anderson and Gabrielle Vandendries came in third and fourth, respectively to earn First Team recognition.

Elliot Ketchel finished second on the men’s side to join them as a First Team selection.

Lily Johnston finished seventh for Second Team honors on the women’s end. Sam Shaheen (6th), Christian Gostout (8th), Jacob Adicoff (9th), and Sean Cork (10th) were all named All- State Second Team as well.

The Polar Bears head to the UVM Carnival this upcoming Friday and Saturday.
