Maine Pines Racquet & Fitness, which is located on Harpswell Road in Brunswick, recently upgraded all of its building’s lighting to the new highly efficient LED lighting technology.
LED lighting has a number of benefits, including lower energy consumption, longer lifetime, smaller in size, and faster switching.
The project included the six indoor tennis courts, all fitness exercise areas including the large aerobics studio on the first floor, the lobby and social areas, locker rooms, and all outdoor lighting.
The project will reduce electricity use by more than 60 percent and yet provides a 50 percent light increase for the exercise and parking areas. The environmental impact is equivalent to removing more than 225,000 pounds of CO2 emissions per year from the atmosphere or taking more than 20 cars off the road.
The project took one week to complete and was done by Big Shine Energy, out of New York, with help from Efficiency Maine and financing from Norway Savings Bank.
