UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) — Frans Nielsen and John Tavares finally solved Philadelphia’s Steve Mason in a shootout, and the New York Islanders outlasted the Flyers 1-0 on Monday night to post the best 21-game start in franchise history.

Mason stopped 46 shots before the tiebreaker, but after denying Kyle Okposo, he was beaten twice. New York has a team-record 15 wins through 21 games (15-6) and is 5-0 in shootouts.

Jaroslav Halak made 21 saves for his third shutout this season.

Wild 4, Panthers 1

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Jason Zucker scored two goals to lead Minnesota over Florida.

Nino Niederreiter also scored for the Wild, and Mikko Koivu had two assists. Zach Parise added an emptynet goal with 1:29 left.

Shawn Thornton scored for the Panthers, and Roberto Luongo made 35 saves.

Red Wings 4, Senators 3

DETROIT (AP) — Stephen Weiss scored twice during Detroit’s three-goal second period to help the Red Wings beat Ottawa.

Gustav Nyquist also scored for the Red Wings, and Jimmy Howard made 23 saves for his ninth win.

Craig Anderson stopped 39 shots for Ottawa.
