BOWDOINHAM

Retail marijuana operations may soon have guidelines in Bowdoinham.

The planning board will consider a reworked ordinance at its meeting Thursday night, which also will include a public hearing. The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building at 13 School St.

The town conducted a public hearing regarding retail marijuana facilities and social clubs on Jan. 25.

An ordinance would put standards in place for retail marijuana establishments. Such places of business would not be permitted within 1,000 feet of a school or church. Owners would also have to set up a system for controlling odors and keep all products in a secured location.

If the proposed ordinance is approved, retail marijuana establishments would be permitted once the planned board conducts a site plan review, like any other commercial property; retail marijuana social clubs would not be permitted.

Also on the planning board’s agenda is a site review application for the new public works facility property. The town is planning a new facility and sandsalt building at 122 Pond Road. It would include offices for the department, a garage for public works vehicles; paving at the new site also is included in the project.

Bowdoinham will be accepting bids for the project until 10 a.m. Thursday. Town Manager Bill Post had previously stated the new facility is needed for worker safety, and to have the ability to put department vehicles in a garage.

In the town’s advertisement for bids, a timeline for the new facility is made clear. The sand-salt building would be completed by November. A final completion date for the rest of the facility, including a garage, is listed as Jan. 31, 2019.
