Give your skis and snowshoes a rest and take to the trails on a fat tire bike at Midcoast Conservancy’s Hidden Valley Nature Center in Jefferson on Sunday, Feb. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Midcoast Conservancy’s fat bikes will be at HVNC for anyone to try on the extensive trail network there. Fat bikes, essentially mountain bikes with extra wide tires, were originally designed for riding in snow and sand and are a growing trend all over Maine. Their ability to handle most trail challenges and conditions make them especially fun to ride.
The bikes will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no charge; the idea is to give everyone a chance to try out this fun and accessible sport. Bring your own helmet, and wear appropriate clothes for the day. If you have your own fat bike, come join us for the day and enjoy the trails.
There will be a fire pit blazing for a midday break for lunch. Bring something to eat (or roast over the fire) and then hit the trails for another adventure.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
