After a perfect first inning from Mike MacDonald, Binghamton touched him up for the game’s first runs in the second. Allan Dykstra doubled to right field leading off the frame. Following a walk by Jefry Marte, Raul Reyes singled, sending Dykstra to the plate to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.
The Sea Dogs got the bats going in the second, scoring five runs for a 5-2 lead. Xander Bogaerts drilled an opposite field home run to tie the game. Derrik Gibson, Zach Gentile and Peter Hissey reached in succession to load the bases. A fielding error gave Portland the lead, and Hazelbaker’s single plated the final two runs.
Over the next five innings, Portland exploded for nine runs. The ’Dogs combined for six doubles and a triple (Gibson).
