PORTLAND — Maine Historical Society, in partnership with the Maine State Library, announces an upcoming grant deadline of Sept. 4 in its Community Mobilization Program, which is designed to help local organizations, historical societies, libraries, and schools use participation in Maine Memory Network to develop skills, build capacity and expand collaboration with local partners.
A news release describes the grant as follows:
The grants and accompanying training empower communities to digitize and share their local history. Grants support digitization projects (up to $1,000) and the creation of online exhibits (up to $1,500). All grant-supported projects will be shared through and become part of MMN, which provides a robust technical infrastructure, a platform for training and skills development, consistent standards, and broad public access.
A wide variety of projects have been created through the Community Mobilization Program to date, from all corners of the state.
Examples can be accessed at www.mainememory.net/ exhibits.
Grant applications must be postmarked by Sept. 4.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
