The driver of a pickup truck that rolled over along Route 201 Monday morning, walked away from the crash with only minor injuries.

The crash was reported to Topsham police at 9:13 a.m. on Route 201 just north of Topsham RollerWorld, Detective Mark LaFountain said Joseph Cobb, 24, of 44 Forest Path, Bowdoin, was heading north on Route 201 and apparently fell asleep. The green 1999 Dodge Sport pickup truck crossed the oncoming traffic lane and went off the left side of the road, over a small embankment into woods. The truck rolled over and came to rest on its side, LaFountain said.

Cobb, the sole occupant, was wearing his seat belt, which LaFountain said probably saved his life. He sustained only bruises and was checked over by Topsham Fire and EMS personnel on scene. He was not transported.

Topsham firefighters had to use a chainsaw to cut down three or four trees to get to the truck, LaFountain said, adding it was difficult for the wrecker truck drivers responding to recover the truck.

Rick Moody of Rick’s Towing in Richmond used his truck winch to remove the totaled pickup truck from the woods where it was then pulled up the rest of the embankment and loaded onto an Anytime Wrecker Service flatbed truck operated by Stanley Williams.

Cobb was issued a summons for operating after suspension, LaFountain said, stemming from an unpaid fee for reinstatement of a suspended driver’s license.
