Bath police arrested a man Monday night that let himself into a basement on Pearl Street.
The alleged burglary was reported at 11:43 p.m. Monday night. Bath Police Lt. Robert Savary said it appeared a male gained entry through an unlocked basement door in the back of the home. He had allegedly been drinking, a violation of bail, and caused noise while in the basement alerting the homeowners who confronted him outside the residence.
Savary said responding officers found the man, 35- year-old Ryan Merrill, with a pipe cutter from the basement. He was arrested and charged with burglary and violation of conditions of release. He was transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.
